OUR PREVIOUS FLOATING ISLANDS
Since 1997 we have been creating lush floating eco-islands from re-purposed trash.
They flourished with abundant vegetation ranging from mangroves (which grew much faster than the ones on the shore and are the best trees for sequestering atmospheric carbon), to fruits, vegetables, a variety of wild plants and plethora aquatic fauna including corals on the underside.
Spiral Island began in the Puerto Aventuras's marina system (Riviera Maya, Mexico) before the residential developments began and Joyxsee Island began in a protected lagoon on Isla Mujeres off the coast from Cancun. They both had all legal permissions as an ecological boat and official studies were made by a marine engineer showing the benefits and floatation capacities of Bottland Islands (a depth of one and a half meters of plastic bottles in net-sacks with good root integration can float elephants).
